The Trevi Fountain, in Rome, Italy is massive, and it has to make your MUST SEE list in Rome. It is a very popular stop for tourists to expect some crowds and justling for room to sit by the fountain for pictures. There are a lot of shops that sell souviniers as well as cafe's, gelato shops and an amazingly good pizza place that is in the row of buildings on the side of the fountain (to your left when facing it). We spent time around the fountain, ate some pizza, shopped a little and then went back to the fountain for a final visit before leaving.

I am sure you have seen all of the lovely pictures of the Spanish Steps on other travel sites where they are empty, and so impressive. Local Travel Host shows you pictures of what you are likely to see during your visit and empty steps is not what you are going to see. As you can tell the Spanish Steps are very crowded especially when you consider that this pictures was taken in mid September, when the summer tourist season is over. This was the only place we found overly crowded on our trip. Many of the places had few if any visitors around and even the Trevi Fountain, although busy was nothing compared to this.

This small fountain was at the foot of the Spanish Steps. A lot of people sat on the sides of it and there was a good number of people that were soaking their aching feet in its cool waters.

The Spanish Steps are the longest and widest steps in Europe. At the top of the steps is the Church of Trinità dei Monti. It took from 1723-1725 132 steps. The Spanish Steps have been restored several times the most recent time was in 1995. The steps are well worth the visit no matter how busy it is. The crowds we experienced were energy filled, magnetic. Although there were large numbers of people, it was a festive atmosphere more like a festival than a crowded lineup. I would suggest walking up the steps and visitng the chruch. During our visit we were so exhausted and our feet hurt, we decided not to walk up them. We have regretted that decision since and will be sure to do it properly our next visit to Rome..
